I am reading this book called 'The Kite Runner" and in the beginning of the book, the main character's father tells him that there really is only one sin, and that all other sins are variations of theft. Here is what he says:
"When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. Do you see?"
I like the concept of this. It's true, but doesn't it seem so simple? I don't know, but anyways, I thought that was interesting enough to share.
Here is something else that has also impacted me. I'm reading a book called, "A Severe Mercy" (check it- it's amazing) and here is somethign that Sheldon Vanauken says about missing someone.
" The great tree goes down and leaves an empty place against the sky. If there person is deeply loved and deeply familiar the void seems greater than all the world remaining."
and here...
"Goodness and love are as real as their terrible opposites, and, in truth, far more real...but love is the final reality; and anyone who does not understand this, be he a writer or sage, is a man flawed in wisdom."
love this day.
