linguaggio internazionale

the language of the world. facial expressions cannot be mistaken. they cannot be misunderstood. there is no mistake in the meaning of a bright-eyed, smiling face.
how did the smile become so positive? why does it give us such a great sense of joy, of love, of connection with one another? Is it an expression that the body cannot help doing when it is filled with love? is it love overflowing?

today, many would say would be a day that a lot of kids around flagler college would have great reasons to smile. finals are this week.

i am sure i was smiling more than usual as i walked from final to final- all of mine being on the same day- of course. but no matter, as i walked in to molly's (our campus food place) to grab a bottle of h2o & hot tea, the cashier was more than kind to me, i left the line being refreshed from her loving disposition, as i walked out, i made eye contact with a boy sitting at a table with his friends, we smiled at eachother, not just a, oh hi you are looking at me so i will fake a quick smile so as not to be rude, kinda of smile, but a sincere smile that lasted a few seconds, and considering i was walking by him, this was a hearty smile. then the next thing i know, there is a girl by the door who looks and smiles at me in return as well, yet another honestly real, love transfering smile.

i couldn't get over this. walking out the door, literally brought tears to my eyes. i had just been filled up by so much love in those 4 minutes that i couldn't believe and didnt expect! i know this might sound overly sentamental or i dont know, sappy, but it was seriously so good to see such a transaction of humanity.

if only those kinds of smiles could end global conflicts. if only the smile exchange between any palestinan & israeli citizen could create a peaceful revolution. if a hug could melt joseph koni and bring him to accomplish peace talks with the ugandan government.

what kind of conflicts in your life could be resolved with only an action of sincerity. what can the smile on your face do, who can the arms and hands embrace, what can your heart fix for the sake of love?
